Shrimp not moulting? Start with observations, not a guessed treatment
A practical checklist for discussing a suspected moulting problem with your aquaculture technician.
Describe what you actually observed
Write down whether you saw fewer shed shells, unusual shell condition, reduced feeding or changes in behaviour. These observations do not by themselves confirm a moulting disorder. Record culture day, species, approximate size, when the concern began and whether the pattern affects a few shrimp or appears widespread.
Take the pond record to your technician
Share recent water-quality results, sampling times, feeding response, weather changes and aerator operation. Ask the technician which measurements need checking again and whether additional water or animal assessment is needed. FAO discusses environmental effects on moulting in hatchery larvae; a hatchery example must not be treated as a grow-out pond threshold.
